Learning to draw... still

Thu Feb 21, 2008, 12:43 AM
Wow, I haven't updated in ages!

As you can probably tell, I've been teaching myself to draw. Slowly... So far its been 18 days, so I'm learning quickly. I seemed to already know the basic structures and whatnot, but I'm still fairly unable to draw without a photo reference, which I'm not satisfied with.

Started a sitting portrait of Aquaman the other day, then I put it aside when I realised I didn't really have much interest in the character... I should finish that soon, just not urgent.

utopia in manipulation is worth a BIG WOWWW ...
Truly great work and I can tell by myself that it needed surly a ton of time to do it ...

Hey you´ve done a perfect composition on that one mate ... dramatic as a scene in aphrodites garden that fell into the future .. well organized theme and light, depth, clearity ... realy the hammer ... I would be proud of myself If I had done such a cool piece ... and you inspired me to do so thanks ... and enjoy your work and further accomplishments ..

Thank you :)

It ended up taking me a few weeks to do it, but a lot of that was looking for just the right image to fill out the piece. I had a rough sketch I was working with, but sometimes I would find something that worked so much better, and that led it to transform and improve through the randomness of what I might find. I kept re-sketching to match what I found, so I still had a plan to work to. I really like the final result

Hey, loved your Art Deco stuff. I'm the community advisor (its like an RA) at a college and we're looking to paint our floor on the inside and we're looking for a sort of art deco archway we can stencil around the doors--would you be interested in designing it? We could take pictures and send them back to you. Let me know. E-mail me at rtalley@iastate.edu.
